10th Grade Student and Parent Education and Career Conferences
Conferencing is a process involving activities planned and directed by school counselors that assist students in planning, monitoring, and managing their own learning, as well as, their personal and career development. In conferencing, students are encouraged to set and evaluate their educational and career goals and dreams and connect to activities that will help them achieve their goals and dreams.
The Grade 10 Student and Parent Educational and Career Planning Conferences focuses on progress made toward a student’s academic, personal/social, and career development growth and looking ahead to their future as they transition to post secondary schooling and eventually into a career. Held during their sophomore year, emphasis during the planning conference is placed on the student’s talents, abilities, interests, goals and dreams, career clusters, pathways and plans, course selection, graduation requirements, transcripts, and post high school plans.
Parents/Guardians are key members of the conference team. Student and Parent Educational and Career Planning Conferences are specifically designed conferences for parents/guardians to gain insight into their child’s development and for students to gain insight into the direction they are headed for the future. The conferencing process involves the school counselor and both the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the student.
Conferencing provides parents/guardians the opportunity to discuss their child’s talents, abilities, and interests in a positive atmosphere and to begin development of a Student Individual Learning Plan. Student and Parent Educational and Career Planning Conferences are intended only for positive student related issues.
Facilitated by the school counselors, Grade 10 Student and Parent Educational and Career Planning Conferences are scheduled during the school day. The length of the conference is typically about 45 minutes. Grade 10 conferencing begins in October and ends in April.
